Samsung CLX-2160N
$400.00
Released July, 2007
The Pros:Toner-based ink system is considerably cheaper than inkjet designs - average page yield between the two is fairly similar (~1000). Direct-to-USB scanning function is excellent - enables fast, storable scanning without requiring a laptop or PC. "No noise" printing technology is great for home and shared office applications - functions as advertised with little to no scanning noise.
The Cons:Not suitable for printing on paper thicker than standard 8.5x11 format - card stock and envelopes are fully unsupported. Included universal software component is confusing and misleading - contains unsupported paper and envelope formats for seemingly "decorative reasons". Color printing is mediocre at best - prone to saturation inconsistencies and blank white "strips".
Samsung CLX-2160N is the entry model for the premium printer CLX line. The design of this model is focused on remaining compact, quite, and multiple functions which may be a necessity for home offices or businesses.

Constructed as a multi-function laser printer, the CLX-2160N prints, scans and copies in laser quality colour. The one-click ID copy allows for both sides of an item to be copied, and if necessary, printed on a single side without having to re-feed the paper. Scanning is performed as an optical resolution of 1200dpi x 600dpi, and with the USB direct interface, images can be printed directly from or scanned onto the external device without the use of a PC. The CLX-2160N is a 2-Line LCD and has 128MB of memory storage, while its paper handing is 150-sheet Cassette Tray and a 1-Sheet Manual Tray. What separates this model from the CLX-2160 is the Ethernet 10/100BaseTX interface.
