A large step up in terms of functionality, the 6988 is faster, contains cartridges with 2-3x the ink capacity and has a built in Ethernet port for operation on a network without a host PC required to be online. The ability to print double sided with a much larger reserve of paper is also an option with an add-on two-sided printing accessory and tray (not included). Similar in most aspects to the 6940, the 6988 adds wireless functionality for only $10.
