Dell 5130cdn
$1,550.00
Released November, 2009
The Pros:First printer to use Color by Dell. Blazing fast/47 color pages per minute. Can be controlled remotely via web browser.
The Cons:Single function - no copying, scanning or faxing functionality. Large and heavy (~100 pounds). Below-par quality for a laser-jet.
The Dell 5130cdn is possibly the world's fastest color laser printer that can print at speeds up to 47 pages per minute. Unlike the larger 7130cdn which is capable of tabloid sized printing, this business class printer is a true laser design compared to that machines more efficient though slightly less accurate LED system.
Basically a laser printer reflects light onto the drum from one light source whereas LED printing involves a strip of tiny lights that span the width of the printing field which flash on and off. In terms of size it weighs about two thirds as much as the 7130cdn at only 99 pounds(!), although it is more flexible with an expandable input capacity of up to 2900 pages via the optional expansion trays. The standard model comes with a 550 sheet main input tray and a 150 sheet multipurpose tray which is used for small jobs and/or odd paper types like coated paper, transparencies, envelopes etc. It also carries comparable processor at 800MHz and 256MB RAM which is expandable to 1.23GB, and unlike the 7130cdn it has a wireless port for adding a WiFi dongle, parallel port and extra USB host port for USB Font memory. Duplexing is also a nice feature that saves you the time and effort of manually flipping the paper over to print on both sides.
