Brother MFC-5890CN

$200.00 Released April, 2009

Product Shot 1 The Pros:Footprint is reasonable, doesn't take up too much room. Automatic feed can handle a small stack of sheets and fax/scan/copy them together or individually. Print speed is relatively fast compared to other models in this price range.

The Cons:Software installation can take up to 40 minutes to install, even on a relatively new computer. There are "known issues" with the driver and Windows Vista. Included phone cord for faxing is fairly short, need to position it near the jack or get another cord.

The Brother MFC-5890CN is an all-in-one & high-impact digital copier, scanner, fax machine, and inkjet printer designed for printing, faxing, copying, or scanning school projects, photos, recipes, web pages, and much more.

An upgrade from the Brother MFC-5490CN, the Brother MFC-5890CN features 64MB of internal memory, not to mention faster 35ppm black and 28ppm color print speeds. Like its predecessor, the MFC-5890CN features an extra-large 150-sheep input tray, a 50-sheet auto document feeder, and a built-in fax machine that can transmit one page approximately every 3 seconds. Most notable about the MFC-5890CN is its compatibility for PictBridge-enabled cameras, USB flash memory drives, and multimedia cards such as Secure Digital, Compact Flesh, and Memory Stick. The MFC-5890CN makes it easy to not only print from a Wi-Fi or Ethernet network, but even directly from your camera. The Brother MFC-5890CN retails for $199.99.

Lance Foss: #brother_mfc_5890cn I am VERY satisfied with the Brother MFC-5890CN. I made my purchase decision at Office Depot very carefully. I priced, more like studied for more than an hour, the printer, ink and features at the store (the printer was on sale at Office Depot at the time). I even compared other printers at other stores the same way. Making the best decision I possibly could that night, I made the plunge and bought this printer, the Brother MFC-589. After four months of sometimes intensive printing, I would make the exact same purchase again, this time without any doubts. It is compact on the desk. The automatic feed works great for me. I can FAX, SCAN, COPY, PHOTCAPTURE and of course PRINT with ease. I find that this printer sips ink (OVERARCHING BEST FEATURE), and prints quickly (the "fast" mode is VERY economical on ink, time and paper) and accurately. The print two pages, or four pages-on-one saves me LOTS OF ink, paper, $ and time! Normally, I avoid using color printing on this and any other printer. This printer allows me to print economically solely in grayscale : ) I make this recommendation voluntarily with no benefit to me or ulterior motive. I am VERY, VERY satisfied with the Brother MFC-5890CN. Lance Foss, Mayfield, KY USA 01/09/2010 Jan 10, 10
